Veneer O how I despise thee

This beat up desk was sitting in a field in front of a house and I just had to rescue it.  At some point in its life I think it was a vanity with a mirror attached.  One thing I knew for sure was that the veneer on top had to go!!!
Removing veneer is a pain and I just recently discover ( a little too late) that I could heat it up with an iron first.  Needless to say I had my hammer and scraper, it took a lot of time and elbow grease to get it off  but I think it was worth it.

Before

After

The color I used was atmospheric by Behr and I used antiquing glaze to add some dark contrast.

  4. I peeled veneer for the first time this past summer - and it WAS a pain, but soooo worth the elbow grease! Your table turned out incredibly beautiful! The painting technique and glazing you did is just beyond perfection! :)

  12. You're right, it was totally worth the effort. I've had my fair share of veneer peeling, it's such a pain. But all worth it in the end. The piece looks great!

  22. In a field??? Oh my, that's after my heart, and would have done the same thing! Except, I tried to rescue a beautiful desk, only to discover bugs crawling in the drawer. I ran..

Gorgeous paint treatment, with much agreement that the veneer removal brought it into spectacular.

    Enjoy..or is this for sale?
