Veneer O how I despise thee

This beat up desk was sitting in a field in front of a house and I just had to rescue it.  At some point in its life I think it was a vanity with a mirror attached.  One thing I knew for sure was that the veneer on top had to go!!!
Removing veneer is a pain and I just recently discover ( a little too late) that I could heat it up with an iron first.  Needless to say I had my hammer and scraper, it took a lot of time and elbow grease to get it off  but I think it was worth it.

The color I used was atmospheric by Behr and I used antiquing glaze to add some dark contrast.

Well it snowed for about 3 minutes here this winter and I have decided that if I paint a spring dresser spring will come. 
     Im tired of the gloom so here is my farm style spring dresser.  
This started out as a cheap sad yard sale find but with all furniture I saw its potential.  

This the before picture with an odd formica top that just had to go!

And after- I built a new top for it using old weathered barn wood

Up- cycled Drawer Shelf

I had found all these old drawers at the recycle center last summer and I thought they had potential. 

So I decided to paint them all different colors and try to sell them.  I thought someone could use them as storage or just a neat decor idea.

Well no one wanted them and they sat and sat,  then my husband of all people suggested I stack them up to make a shelf!   Here it is an up-cycled drawer shelf I thought would work great for all the kids dvd's.

I actually made something I saw on Pinterest

Out of all the hours I spend looking at awesome project ideas on Pinterest I surprised myself by actually putting the computer down and making one.  ( Did I mention that Pinterest is really addictive)

So I saw this quote " Life is about using the full box of crayons" I though it would make a cute sign.

I bought some cheap peal and stick vinyl letters and laid out my words on a board I had painted black.

I covered the letters and the entire board with a grey colored paint and used cheese cloth to dap it on.

When it was dry I just pealed off my letters

and the final result...

I'm Baaaaack !!!

O my!  Its been a while since my last post between Christmas and New Years, my kids and husband being home on break -it really can mess with a  girls schedule.  ( and the garage is FREEZING!!!)  who wants to go work in a freezing cold garage? Not me!

So do you ever see a project that sounds like great idea and you see it everywhere, so you say to yourself "hey I can do that"  Well six months later I have finally finished that project.    I stared it and realized it was way to tedious and time consuming and yes I may have done it the hardest way possible ( letter stencil by letter stencil)  This sat in my garage half done taunting me day after day till finally I regained my motivation.

80's flashback

Sometimes when you buy old furniture you find some surprises in the drawers either good, bad or just gross .  Mostly I find peoples garbage but the other day I found an old newspaper ad from Montgomery Ward c. 1981.  Before I tossed it I thought I would look at it and yes I discovered that people actually paid for all the overly veneered furniture you see at the Goodwill.  Take a look!!!  


O and yes those are some super special outfits in there too!
