Is there a doctor in the house?

This was an old doctors exam table from the 1900's by W.D. Allison company from Indianapolis.  Well needless to say I may have destroyed an expensive antique.  It just came down to the question who's going to buy an exam table?  So I had to figure out a way to make it usable furniture it had a lot of character and potential so I ripped off the black vinyl and under neath was stuffing and hay, it was a huge mess and Im pretty sure it was toxic.   Well after all that I painted the top for some contrast and left the foot rest I thought it would make a nice cutting board or just raise it for when you need extra space.  Now its a useable farm table!

  1. Brilliant!! I think you did the right thing.....just because something is old doesn't mean it's worth a lot. Now it's cute, useful, and has a story or two to tell!!

  2. I think you did the right thing too... it was a nice antique, but really, the goal is to make older things useful right so they have a place in our homes. Someone will get a lot of use out of this table & they'll be happy to tell people about it's former life.

  3. Very Nice! You may have destroyed a valuable antique, but I think this turned out beautifully! Much more functional! Lots of purpose with this one now! Sewing table, craft table, kitchen/dining table for a small space! Kudos to you! Love it!

  14. I love it. You did this interesting piece of furniture a huge favor and gave it new life. Just because something is an antique and maybe not too common, does not mean it has much value living on as it was. Great work. Thanks for sharing.
